DIY SOS – Grenfell Project- Royal Visit

News

February 8, 2023

DIY SOS are embarking on one of their most significant builds to deliver a brand new community centre and a new home for the Dale Youth Amateur Boxing Club for the Grenfell Community. DIY SOS Big Build relies entirely on companies and individuals to support the scheme either through donations or offering to volunteer their time to work on the project.

We were invited by one of our key clients; Galliard Construction, who are acting as Main Contractor for the scheme, to provide labour and management for the internal drylining and elements of the external façade works. We are very proud to be part of the team of such a worthy project. Being a Specialist Façade Contractor, seeing the horrendous images of the Grenfell Tragedy will always stick with us and will be a constant reminder to ensure we deliver safe façade installations, which we will do by providing continual training of our employees and operatives to understand the importance of the design, procurement and installation of safe façade systems to ensure we never have to witness another Grenfell.

The Boxing Club was actually based on the 1st floor of the Grenfell Tower and was an important focal point for the young people of the local community, the Club has a very strong pedigree and has produced both Olympic and World Champions in the form of James DeGale and George Groves. This new home for the Club, coupled with the new community centre will hopefully give the local residents a place to come together

The Project has also received a royal seal of approval, HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge recently visited the project to lend a hand and spend some time with both the local residents and volunteers.

We would like to thank all those within our supply chain that have provided us with materials, Siniat, Penlaw, Marley Eternit, Hilti Eurofox, Rockwool, Metsec and say thank you to all our Staff and operatives that have been working around the clock to deliver this project.

The BBC are regularly on site filming and the show is due to air over the coming months which will be shown over two episodes.
