Purpose is the latest addition to OCL’s core values, and one that truly captures who we are and what drives us forward. It reflects our genuine, long-term commitment to social value and the positive impact we continue to create across the communities we serve.
This value goes beyond words on a page. It’s embedded in how we work and what we believe, from inspiring the next generation of construction talent, to supporting local employment, education, and sustainability initiatives that leave a lasting legacy in the communities that we are part of.
We believe that a successful business is one that builds with people and for people, creating opportunities, strengthening communities, and helping shape a more inclusive construction industry for the future.
Some of our current live projects aligned with our social value strategy include:
Curated and developed by the women of OCL, with the full backing of our Senior Leadership Team and the support of industry trailblazers, Girls Can Build champions early intervention to inspire the next generation. The programme is designed to ignite curiosity and confidence in young girls, helping them discover the wide range of exciting and rewarding careers available across the construction industry. Since its launch in March 2024, Girls Can Build has already reached over 2,500 primary and secondary school pupils. The programme sparks curiosity and explores the various amazing roles in construction.

Our team actively supports the local council’s mentoring scheme for college students and women from BAME communities. We help participants build confidence in business through CV writing, interview prep, connection-building, and more. We are proud to support Essex County Council's We Rise Mentoring Scheme and have several members of the Senior Leadership Team who have this year stepped forward to help support young people living the borough, who have an interest in a career within Finance, Health & Safety, Quantity Surveying or Commercial.
